Spanish Mastiff Breed Information

Spanish Mastiff was originally developed in Spain. This breed was used as guard dogs, and also as herd dogs. Now, at present this breed is mostly used as companion dogs. The Spanish mastiff is considered as the national dog breed of Spain. This breed is massive and also stocky in appearance. They are very muscular and the whole body is in perfect proportion. The coat covering the body of this breed is short, and woolly in texture. They have a lot of loose skin covering their coat. They are available in red, brown, red and black combination, and also in grey colour. They have pendant shaped ears, and low hung tail. This breed is noble and also dignified in nature. They are loyal and also devoted towards their master and also the family. They should be provided with proper training or else they tend to get lazy. They are very watchful and also alert. They are very protective of their master, family and also the herd. They become dangerously fearless when their master is in danger. They can be aggressive when around other dogs and also unfamiliar people; this can be avoided by proper socialization, from an initial stage. They are brave intelligent and also smart dogs. They are not a good choice for inexperienced owners. They are gentle and also calm when around children and are very playful around them, but they might unknowingly hurt them, so it is not wise to leave your child alone with a Spanish Mastiff. The average height of a healthy Spanish mastiff is 73 cm to 88 cm. the average weight of male Spanish mastiffs are 91 kg to 101 kg, and in case of female Spanish mastiffs are 121 kg. This breed is very large in size, and hence is not preferable in apartment. And also this breed is very energetic, hence they at least need and yard to become mentally and also physically stimulated. They are comfortable in both extreme heat and also cold climate. They should be brushed and also combed regularly. They are mainly prone to health conditions such as, hip dysplasia, entropion and also eye infections. The average life expectancy of this breed is 10 years to 12 years.
