Picardy Spaniel Breed Information

This breed was originally developed in France, and was used as gun dogs. They were excellent hunters, and were used in almost all kinds of terrines. This breed is one among the oldest breed in the family of spaniels. This breed has a powerful body and they are muscular in appearance. They are medium in size. Their head is oval in shape, with a brad muzzle. The ears of this breed are low hanging and are in the shape of a pendant. Their teeth are set in scissor bite and they have powerful jaw. This breed is very athletic and swift. Their toes and arched and their paws are hard padded, which helps them to adjust in rough terrines. The coat covering this breed is long and also slightly wavy in appearance. Their body and also ears are covered with long hairs. This breed is available in dark chocolate colour, brown and also in sandy colour. This breed is very friendly and calm in nature. They are highly energetic and also active. They easily get attached to the family and also to their master. This breed is very loving and affectionate. They are excellent companions for children, and love to play with them. This breed is very intelligent and also smart. They are easy to train as they are keen to please their master. This breed loves the attention and the care given to them. They are loyal and devoted to their master and the family. They are very brave and fearless. Sometimes this breed can get very protective of their master. They tend to become aggressive around strangers, and this should be avoided with proper socialization. The average height of a healthy Picardy spaniel is 56 cm to 61 cm, and the average weight of this breed is 20 kg to 25 kg. This breed can easily adjust in an apartment, as long as they are properly exercised. They should be taken out for daily exercise and also occasional off the leash play. This breed is easy to groom. They should be brushed and combed daily, in order to avoid the matting of coat. This breed is generally very healthy, but is occasionally prone to health conditions such as ear infections and also eating disorders. The average life span of a healthy Picardy spaniel is 14 years.
