This breed was originally developed in Germany. This breed was bred from Leonberger, Hungarian kuvas and also Newfoundland. This breed is being used as watch dogs, guard dogs, and also as family companions. Basically this breed was used for herding purposes. This breed resembles with golden retriever. They have a broad and wide head. They have wide nostrils, which contributes towards the tracking skills of the breed. Their teeth are set either in scissor bite or level bite in some cases. They have small erect ears, which are triangular in shape. Their feet are small and also compact. They are very compact and also medium in size. This breed is well built and also powerful. The coat covering the body of this breed is dense and also wavy texture. The chest, legs and also neck of this breed is covered with long hairs. They are available in blonde, golden, white and also black colour. This breed is strong and powerful. They are loud barkers, and often alert their masters with their bark. They are very calm and gentle at most of the times. They are very friendly and affectionate towards their master and also the family. This breed easily gets attached to the family. They are friendly towards kids and love to play and also spend time with them. They are very keen to please their masters, and also love to stay close to the family as long as possible. They are always very watchful and also alert. They are perfect choice as watch dogs. They are very protective and defensive of their master and the family. They are loyal and also devoted to their master. They can be aggressive around strangers, and this should be avoided with proper socialization. They should be properly trained by an efficient and also confident trainer. The average height and also weight of this breed is 58 cm to 70 cm and 25 kg to 51 kg. They are not suitable to live in apartments, as they are very energetic and are difficult to confine them in a small space. They at least need a large yard to run around and burn off their energy. Daily exercise is very much important for them to keep them mentally and also physically stable. This breed is very much easy to groom. They should be combed and brushed every day. The average life expectancy of this breed is 10 years to 14 years.
