Hanover Hound Breed Information

Hanover Hound is originally from the family of scent hounds, and is also known as Hanover scent hounds. This breed was first developed in Hanover, a region in Germany. This breed was mainly used for hunting purposes. They were used as trackers by the medieval German hunters. This breed has an excellent sense of smell. Out of Europe, this breed is very rare to find. This breed is well built and muscular in appearance. They are medium in size. Their head is round in shape and their muzzle is medium in length. Their teeth either forms scissor bite or in some cases level bite. Their ears are low hanging and form a pendent shape. This breed is deep chested. The body of Hanover hounds is covered with a short coat, which is smooth and sleek in texture. This breed is available in different shades varying from, fawn, red and brown. The face of this breed is partially covered with a black mask. This breed is friendly, gentle and also calm in nature. They are very brave and smart. They tend to get stubborn and dominant at certain times, and hence they should be provided with firm training. The trainer should be strong willed and also calm at the same time, as this breed does not respond well towards harsh treatment. These dogs can be loud barkers. They love to run around and bark to its heartís content. They can be aggressive towards strangers and also other animals. In order to avoid this, they should be properly socialized. They are generally gentle and friendly towards the kids and also other house hold pets. They can be protective of their master and family. They are very devoted and also loyal breed.The average height of a healthy Hanover hound is 18 inches to 22 inches, and the average weight of this breed is 80 pounds to 100 pounds. This breed is not recommended for in experienced dog owners. They are not suitable to live an apartment or in urban areas. They are best suitable in country side, with a large yard, where they can run around and spent off their energy. This breed should be taken out every day for exercise. This breed requires only minimum grooming. They should be brushed and combed every day. They are generally very healthy breed, and the average life expectancy of this breed is 14 years.
