Grey Hound Breed Information

This breed is believed to have developed in Egypt, during the year 2900 B.C. They are the fastest dogs in the world. They run in a speed of 65 km/h. they were also used as hunting dogs and show dogs. They were used to hunt, animals like rabbits, deer, fox and wild boar. They have an excellent eye sight. This breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in the year 1885. Now this breed is used as watchdogs, race dogs, and also as house hold companions. This breed is very tall in appearance. They have a slender body. Their head is narrow and also long in shape, with a long and tapering muzzle. They have folded ears which are slightly perked. Their neck is long and also arched. They are deep chested. Their tail is long and also tapering towards the end. The coat covering the body of the breed is short and also fine in texture. This breed is very fearless and also brave. They are smart dogs, and intellectual. They are loving, caring and also affectionate. They are reserved in nature. They open up to none other than their master. They are basically hunting dogs, and hence have all the instincts of a hunting dog. They can have aggressive towards smaller animals, and this should be avoided by proper socialization. They can be a wonderful house pet in the hands of a firm and calm owner. They are not the best choice for in experienced dog owners. They are very fast and are used as race dogs by many owners. The average height and weight of a healthy male grey hound is 71 cm to 76 cm and 29 kg to 36 kg. In case of female Grey hounds, the average height and weight is 68 cm to 71 cm and 27 kg to 31 kg. If this breed is properly exercised, they can easily adjust in an apartment. They are very energetic and also active breed, and hence exercise is very important for them. They should be taken out for long walks, and they should be allowed to run around the yard or playground. They are easy to groom, as they just need a daily brush and combing. The average life span of this breed is 10 years to 12 years
