French Brittany Dog Breed Information

French Brittany Dogs were actually bred in France around the year 1700. They were used as hunting dogs. They were used to hunt fresh meat. They were also used for bird hunting as retrievers. They have an excellent sense of smell. This breed is very compact and at the same time is athletic. They are heavy, active and also energetic. Their head is of average size, with law hung ears. In almost all the cases this breed has a small tail, and in rare cases they have short tails, anyways they are docked right after birth. They are great working dogs and their body can easily adapt to any kind of terrain. The coat covering the skin of this breed is flat and also dense in texture. Their coat is smooth and silky to touch. The average height of a healthy French Brittany is 1 foot 6 inches to 1 foot 9 inches, and the average weight of a healthy French Brittany is 32 pounds to 40 pounds. French Brittany is generally very alert and also watchful. They have an independent way of thinking and are also very keen to please their masters. Hence, they are easy to train and handle. They love spending time with family and also children. They do not respond well to harsh training. They should be trained by calm and a gentle leader, and he should also be firm at times. They can be aggressive when around people and also other dogs; this can be avoided with proper training and also early socializing. They are not recommended to be brought up in an apartment. They need open spaces or at least a yard to be happy and also active. Daily physical training and exercise is a must for this breed for mental and also physical fitness. They are very easy to groom. An occasional brushing or combing will keep its coat smooth and silky. They should be bathed at least one in every month, to avoid unwanted infections. Their ears should be checked every day to find any king of infections. Their teeth should also be brushed at least two times a week. This breed is generally healthy, but can be affected by health conditions at times. They are mainly prone to diseases like hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism and also Epilepsy. The average lifespan of this breed is 10 years to 13 years.
