Black Russian Terrier Breed Information

Black Russian terrier was developed in Russia, in the year 1940, by the Soviet Union. About 20 breeds were involved in forming Black Russian Terrier. This breed was recognized by American Kennel Club in the year 2004. In the earlier days they were mainly used as working dogs. They are large dogs, and are also considered as rare breed of Russian dogs. They are strong and are also tough in nature. Their head is block shaped and is also long. Their skull is flat and broad. Their teeth are set at scissor bite. They have triangular shaped ears, which is round at the ends. Their neck is thick and also muscular in appearance. Their tail is usually docked after the birth. Their feet are large in size, and are thickly padded. The coat covering their body is waterproof, and has a coarse texture. They are very witful and also smart. They are very protective in nature and are usually reserved and suspicious among unfamiliar people. They are very quick learners, and should be trained with a firm as well as calm attitude. They are excellent when with children. They love to play with kids and also spend time with them. They are generally calm with other household pets, given that they are smaller an also less dominant than Black Russian terrier. They are very easy to handle, and are keen to please their master. They like to stay close to the family and hence, they should be tied up in a kennel outside the house, they should be kept in. If they are not properly trained and socialized they might be affected by behavioural issues. The average height and weight of a male Black Russian terrier is 65 cm to 75 cm, and 38 kg to 69 kg respectively. And in the case of females, the average height and weight are 64 cm to 73 cm, and 35 kg to 64 kg. They are suitable for apartment life, but make sure that, they are properly exercised. If they are not provided with sufficient exercise, they can get very destructive. They should be regularly brushed and occasionally trimmed once or twice every year. The average life span of this breed is 10 years to 14 years.
