Bearded collie, was originally developed in Britain, and is also the oldest breed of dog in Britain. This breed was fond around in the year 1514. They were mostly used as heard dogs in farms. They are also known as Highland collie and also highland shepherds. They are considered as one mong the rare breeds of dog in the world. They are used as trackers, and also as family dogs. They are medium in their size, and are very strong. They were used as working dogs in the earlier days. The have a large head, with strong muzzle. Their nose is black and also square in shape. They have medium sized hanging ears. Their head and also the ears are covered with long hairs. Their teeth are set in scissor bite. They have a low set tail. The body of the breed is covered with long hairs. They are very calm as well as cheerful dogs in nature. They are very lovely and playful. They are calm and also affectionate towards kids. They tend to get attached with the family very easily, and remain at their side more often. If they are bored they tend to get very naughty, you should be also careful not to leave them alone in a room. They can be easily trained. They need a calm as well as confident owner to lead them. They are old barkers, and are hence not suitable for urban life. They tend to be either shy or aggressive when they are around unfamiliar people. This should be avoided by giving them proper training and also socialization. The average height of a healthy bearded collie is 51 cm to 56 cm, and the average weight of this breed is 18kg to 28 kg. They should be brushed and also combed daily in order to avoid matting of the long hairs in its coat. Their eyes as well as ears should be daily checked to find infections. They should be taken out for regular walks to keep them active. They should be also provided with an off the leash play in playgrounds. The average life span of this breed is 14 years to 15 years.
