This breed is believed to be of Norman French origin. Beagle Harriers are believed to be descendants of Blood hounds and Basel hounds. They were used as hunter dogs at earlier times. They are good choice as a family dog and are one of the rarest breeds in the world. They are medium in size, and have long muzzles, with wide nostrils, which make them good trackers. They have high stamina and are very energetic, but are not as swift as other hounds. Their ears are long and also hanging. Their feet are thick padded, which helps them to accommodate in rough terrines. They are broad chested and also have high set tail. The average height of a Beagle-Harrier is 20 inches to 22 inches, and the average weight is 46 pounds to 65 pounds. The coat covering their body is thick as well as very short in length. They are available in tan, white and also black colours. Their coat should be regularly brushed and should also be trimmed once in a while. Their ears should be cleaned and checked for any kind of infections. His nails should be trimmed regularly. They are comfortable and playful when with children, and they also enjoy the company of other dogs. Even so they are aggressive towards their small animals, and consider them a preys. They should be properly trained and also socialized in order to avoid this. This breed is not suitable to live in apartment, as the might get destructive, if they are confined in smaller space. They prefer to be closer to the family; hence they should not be kept out in kennels. The average height of a healthy Beagle Harrier is one foot and nine inches to one foot and eleven inches. And the average weight of this breed is 55 pounds to 65 pounds. They should be taken out regularly for their walks, and their exercises should not be missed out. They tend to get destructive if they are not sufficiently exercised. Usually this breed is very healthy, but in some cases they are prone to hip dysplasia. The average life expectancy of this breed is 10 years to 12 years.
